Prepare Your Teens for Launch with Life Skills Reimagined: A Review

It's hard to believe I have a high school senior and a high school junior this year! So little time and so much left to teach them to help them prepare for the next phase of life!

For some kids, the next step after high school might be college, trade school, or military service. But at some point down the road, they'll be independent adults and need to master all the skills of, well, adulting!

My 16 year old daughter in particular has been full of questions about adult life, like what it costs to live on your own, how you find an apartment, and what other financial responsibilities she'll need to prepare for.

Life Skills Reimagined from LYFT Learning has been the perfect opportunity to explore these questions and more, giving her an up-close look at the responsibilities of life after full-time education!

Effective and Accessible Online Lessons

Life Skills Reimagined Covers Five Basic Topics:

  • Communication Skills
  • Getting & Keeping a Job
  • Independent Living
  • Personal Finance
  • Resiliency

Students can take a pre-assessment at the beginning of each topic to find out how much they already know, and then check back later to see how much new knowledge they've gained!

Here's a quick sampling of some of the ideas this curriculum covers under these topics:

Responsibilities of Independent Living

Life Skills Reimagined includes a robust series of lessons on the ins and outs of getting your first apartment. My daughter was able to learn about things like how to find and secure an apartment, estimating the cost of various forms of damage that might occur in a rental property, and even a moving checklist!

Communication, Relationships, and Emotional Resiliency

There are plenty of online courses that cover topics of financial management and job training. But Life Skills Reimagined goes even deeper. It covers topics like emotional trauma and healing from pas traumatic life events.

In fact, this curriculum was originally created for children preparing to age out of the foster care system, and so it even covers such essentials as applying for a social security card and understanding a nutrition label.

In addition, Life Skills Reimagined includes a section on Smart Romantic Relationships and another on Love & Sex. You can restrict these sections from your student's course listing if you wish.
