Homeschool Entrepreneurship Curriculum

Maybe your kids read The Toothpaste Millionaire and thought it might be fun to start their own company. But what does it actually take to be a small business owner? Edison Learning's "Entrepreneurship & Small Business Certification Course" gives students an inside peek at the various aspects of starting and running a small business. In nine modules, it covers topics like:

  • Important Characteristics of Successful Entrepreneurs
  • How to Spot Business Opportunities
  • Business Management basics like copyright, employees, and taxes

And much more!

This is a gentle introduction to the topic of small business ownership, so, while you're students won't have to calculate payroll taxes or forecast supply and demand, they will be introduced to concepts like "sole proprietorship" and "employee vs service provider".

Reading, Discussion, Engangement

The Entrepreneurship & Small Business Certification Course is designed on a model of video learning, reading, and engagement in community discussion.

Each module includes a series of lessons introduced by video, followed by either a brief comprehension check or a discussion forum assignment. In these sections students are graded based on the quality of their participation in the discussion.

Edison Learning has also curated reading assignments from leading industry publishers and business leaders to enrich student exploration and thinking.

Most modules also include a mini-project of some sort where students have the opportunity to dig deeper into one aspect of the topic of that module and share what they've learned with the class. These projects also give students the opportunity to get to know graphic design software platforms like Canva or others that will come in handy for small business ownership!
