BrainPOP Online Homeschool Curriculum Review

I'll never forget when I first met Tim and Moby. I was a second grade teacher and I was desperate for some way to help my kids understand complex science concepts. And then, I found BrainPOP!

Well, that was nearly (ahem) two decades ago. And since then, BrainPOP has only gotten better!

I was excited to be able to use BrainPOP in our homeschool. The grandparents even gifted them a subscription on year for Christmas and they were thrilled!

Let me introduce you to the resources and features available on BrainPOP!

Brain Pop Covers Core Subjects

What drew me to BrainPOP in my classroom teaching days were the videos on every topic in the core subjects: math, English, science, and social studies. They've since added even more categories!

In addition to expanding their video library, however, Brain Pop has also added lots of excellent ways for kids to engage with the videos they are watching.

My kids have never had trouble staying interested in the videos themselves, but the games, quizzes, and other ways to demonstrate and solidify learning are a huge plus. The kids often voluntarily take the quizzes after watching a video to challenge themselves!

BrainPOP Homeschool Combo

Another thing that's new at BrainPOP since my public school teaching days is the arrival of BrainPOP Jr. Even though the original BrainPOP videos have wide appeal to kids of a range of ages, BrainPOP is recommended for kids in third through eighth grade. BrainPOP Jr. was designed specifically for the Kindergarten through third grade crowd.

But don't worry - you don't have to choose between them. As a homeschooler, you can sign up for the Brain Pop Homeschool Combo which includes both BrainPOP (3-8) and BrainPOP Jr. (K-3).

Once you set up your teacher and student accounts, all of your students will have access to the full range of videos from both sets, so you can use and assign which ever videos best relate to the subject you are studying!

Teacher Dashboard for Homeschooling Online

Did you know that during the pandemic, over 70% of US schools utilized BrainPOP as an online learning tool? It's no wonder! One of the handy features is the parent (teacher) dashboard that allows an educator to create assignments and track student progress.

As a homeschool mom, I usually create one "class" for each of my kids since they are usually learning different things. But BrainPOP makes it really easy to assign the same topics to multiple classes!

Here's a quick visual walkthrough I created so you can see the simple process of adding an assignment to your student's class.

Name the assignment and choose a class (or even specific students in a class).

Search BrainPOP for topics.

Choose activities. Quizzes can be graded or just for review.

Choose multiple activities per topic.

Change the order of the activities if you need to.

All set! Duplicate to other lasses or add to Google Classroom!

What the assignment looks like in the teacher dashboard.

What the assignment looks like in the student dashboard.

When student clicks on the assignment, they can see the activities included!

Queen Elsa (a.k.a. Hazel) learning about birds!

Playing a vocabulary review game!

Try BrainPOP at Home!

Now, you can save up to 28% on a Homeschool Bundle subscription to BrainPOP and get two weeks free!
